Bike-A-Thon 2008

The Rotary Club of Vancouver's annual Bike-A-Thon to raise money for hearing took place on July 13th, 2008.  It was a WONDERFUL day and we raised a record $137,800 for the RHF Foundation and the Hearing Impaired in British Columbia!

We want to thank the over 1,000 donors who supported the 136 riders who took part in the ride!  And of course, all the volunteers who helped make this a special day.

A special thanks to all our Sponsors - and there are 94 - for your prize donations, services, and help along the way.

Thank you all once again!

2007-2008 Ambassadorial & Cultural Student Program

At this time District 5040 is looking to build a roster of Rotarians that would be interested in being Counselors for the above noted program.
This would especially suit younger Rotarians and is not a very labour intensive undertaking.
The main focus would be to meet the students at the airport and get them settled in their lodgings - (which will be pre arranged).  Help them set up a bank account and in the case of Ambassadorial Scholars - the $$ from RI actually comes directly to the councilor.
During the course of the year - keep in touch with your student - try to encourage their speaking at your club and others (I will handle most of these arrangements).
The only responsibility of the councilor's club is to sponsor the student to attend the District Foundation Dinner.
As we have no idea, as yet, of the numbers we are looking at - I am just building a roster of interested Rotarians at this time.

History of the Rotary Club of Vancouver

A History of the Rotary Club of Vancouver on its 75th Anniversary. Prepared by Ted McRae.

In 1988, Ted McRae, Past-President and Paul Harris Fellow, was asked to write a History of the Vancouver Club commemorating its 75th Anniversary. In honour of Ted, his dedication and commitment to the Vancouver Club, the Complete Text of his research is attached.

How it all started!

The Charter and the official recognition of the Rotary Club of Vancouver, was presented at a luncheon on April 22, 1913. The Roster of the day listed 94 members, a recruiting accomplishment unequalled in our history. There was little doubt that "Vancouver was ready for Rotary".

Here is an excerpt from Ted McRae's history of our club - The Formative Years.
